Catholic Traditions in the United States


Historical exploration of the U.S. Catholic traditions, including Roman Catholicism, independent Catholicism, and other religions' engagements with Catholicism, both friendly and hostile, through primary and secondary texts and other media. Course themes include historiography of American Catholicism, theories of Catholic difference, the new "Catholic Studies," "Catholicizing" the field of U.S. religious history, and professional development.
