How has being a Religion graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I studied mostly Eastern religions and comparative religions, with a focus on religion and society and gender. I was also completing pre-med requirements and attended medical school after graduating from Duke. I was able to combine these interests during my study abroad in Viet Nam where I lived and studied in a Buddhist Monastery which also ran an herbal medicine and acupuncture clinic. Having a solid understanding of religious and beliefs and practices has helped me connect with patients and practice more compassionate medicine tailored to their individual lifestyle and needs."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Religion programs?

"Read about and study every religion. In today's increasingly divided society we can all benefit from deeper understanding, tolerance and appreciation for the foundation of other people's lives."
