Pastor, United Methodist Church – Burlingame, California

2003 Major: Religious Studies

How has being a Religion graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"I have such fond memories of my studies at Duke. I loved the religion department! I think of my professors, classes, and peers often. My learnings are still very valuable to my life and career. I did not think I would be a local minister, but after a few years in social work and serving in the Peace Corps, I entered ministry in the local church. I've been serving for over a decade and love it! I am grateful for my education at Duke and the gifts I received from the Religion Department."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Religion programs?

"Take as many different classes as you can in the department; I loved the variety and the different religions and perspectives I could study. I enjoyed the smaller size of the department at the time and knew my peers and professors well. Study to learn and grow; a career will come!"
